Overview
With funding secured for Fiscal Year 2026, staff will be focused for the remainder of the year on the implementation of the New Bus Network and preparing for the events of Americas 250th birthday in 2026.
Proposed Service Changes for Fiscal Year 2026
SEPTA began a Comprehensive Bus Network Redesign in 2021 after ridership dropped nearly 20% between 2013 and 2019 while operating costs increased by 10%, creating slower and less reliable service for customers. Between the spring of 2021 and fall of 2023, SEPTA evaluated its entire bus system on a holistic level, using a data-driven and systematic approach rooted in public engagement to identify network improvements. This effort, referred to as Bus Revolution, paired technical analysis with extensive public outreach throughout the region. The SEPTA Board adopted the new bus network in spring 2024, and with funding now available, staff will work on implementing it later in Fiscal Year 2026.
Additionally, staff will begin to plan for additional events in the region as part of America’s 250th Birthday, the World Cup, All Star Game and other events. Additional operators may be brought on board to help accommodate the anticipated loads; plans will be made for service changes to help move people around the region for these festivities.
SEPTA staff will continue to adjust service levels, running time, and other scheduling areas to improve reliability and address increased ridership growth. These initiatives will focus around SEPTA’s “Back to Basics” campaign, seeking to provide dependable services across the region in a fiscally constrained manner.
